Suzuki’s SX4 gets facelift and All-Wheel Drive

Suzuki’s SX4 gets facelift and All-Wheel Drive

Arguably one of South Africa’s most underrated hatchbacks has undergone a significant facelift. The Suzuki SX4, dubbed a ‘lifestyle hatchback’ by its makers, gets a revised engine, optional all-wheel drive, and a cleaner, more chiselled appearance.

The MY2010 SX4s 2,0-litre powerplant now delivers 112 kW and 190 Nm, reflecting improvements of 4,7 percent and 3,3 percent respectively. At the same time, average fuel consumption and exhaust emissions have been reduced by 13,1 and 15,0 percent respectively.

The all-wheel drive option adds so-called intelligent-AWD to the SX4 package, upping the car’s traversability in compromised environments such as sand or mud by seamlessly distributing power between the default front and the rear wheels.

The previous model’s inadequate four-speed automatic gearbox has been replaced by an efficient Constantly Variable Transmission (CVT) with six ‘virtual’ gears that can be accessed via steering wheel-mounted shift paddles.

The most obvious external changes include a new, mesh-trimmed grille and updated 16-inch alloy wheels. The interior has also been spruced up with smarter materials, while engineering changes ensure a stiffer chassis, improved suspension, and lower noise levels.

The model line-up and pricing is as follows:

Suzuki SX4 2.0 Manual R209 500
Suzuki  SX4 2.0 CVT
R224 500
Suzuki SX4 2.0 AWD Manual R229 500
