Volvo V60 R-Design

A few years ago Volvo tried to compete against the likes of the E55 AMG, M5 and S6 with the S60 R, a hotter version of the standard S60.

Unfortunately it didn’t take off, partly due to the lack of power compared to the German trio. But now there is a new R-version available, and this time power wont be an issue.

That is because Volvo has not added any extra power to the R this time. By distancing themselves from the arms race Volvo doesn’t need to pull a mighty turbocharged V8 out of nothingness and make it work in a S60 (although they could call Noble and borrow their Volvo derived 470 kW V8).

Instead the R-Design package will be available on any S60 and V60 model and will consist of cosmetic and handling upgrades.

On the outside, R-Design kits will have a redesigned front valance, a new diffuser housing twin exhaust tailpipes and five-spoke 18” wheels. Inside, you’ll at least feel faster with new sport seats, steering wheel, gear selector and pedals. The interior colour scheme is also unique.

The handling has been upgraded by stiffening the the rear by 20%, while the front has been lowered by 15mm and stiffened by 15%.

There is no definitive word on when the package will be available or if it will be available in South Africa.
