Porsche’s latest incarnation of the famous 911 will be receiving their Turbo badged brethren later this year, and according to the numbers it is sure to be a force to be reckoned with.

The Turbo has received a September release in Europe after the Frankfurt motor show, and which will see the range topping 911 being made available in two tunings, namely the Turbo and Turbo S.

The standard Turbo manages to squeeze another 15 kW out of its twin-turbocharged 3,8-litre flat six engine, which now producers 383 kW. The S gets a healthier 22 kW increase that leaves it with 411 kW, and a claimed 0-100km/h sprint of 3.1 seconds.

Looking at the rest of the 991-series, it is no surprise that the Turbo has also increased in size, adding an extra 40mm onto the length, but dropping the kerb weight to 1570kg due to the inner and outer body structure being structured out of aluminium.

This weight drop, in conjunction with the increase in power, gives the Turbo S a power-to-weight ratio that is far superior to its predecessor.

As with the new 911 GT3, the Turbo and Turbo S will receive four-wheel steering. Porsche claims that this addition has vastly improved the agility of the new car, and that it is largely the reason for the car’s new Nürburgring lap time equalling that of the Carrera GT.

For the first time in 40 years, the Turbo will not be made available with a manual gearbox. As with the GT3 the manual gearbox has been struck off the option list, and all Turbo’s will roll off the assembly line with a seven-speed PDK gearbox.

Final pricing is yet to be confirmed, but it seems that a 10% increase is expected compared to the previous generation of 911 Turbos.
