Dynamic and styling upgrade for next Qashqai

Nissan Resonance

Following the success of the Juke, it seems that Nissan has decided to stop playing it safe. At least that’s what the concept design images being put forward for the new Qashqai seem to indicate.

Nissan says it comfortable pushing the angular styling language for its crossover designs, while leaving the organic design principles to its sister brand Infiniti.

The original Qashqai was deigned to be profitable with sales volumes half of what the vehicle actually achieved, so Nissan is likely to employ revised economies of scale for the design of its successor. This should translate into a vehicle that is simply constructed, but boasting higher quality materials.

Nissan is also preparing a raft of new engines, including a Renault-designed turbodiesel, but the petrol units are the ones we are most interested in.

A new 1,2-litre turbocharged petrol unit will become the spiritual successor to the current 1,6-litre naturally aspirated powerplant. The Juke’s DIG-T engine will also be available, and in two states of tune.

Nissan says the range-topping Qashqai will be equipped with a 160 kW DIG-T engine, enough to make even this bigger crossover feel sporty.

On top of that, the vehicle’s suspension and general dynamic characteristics have been redesigned to match its new-found edgy design and the increased urgency of its petrol engines.

The next-gen Qashqai is expected to be launched next year.
