Mercedes-Benz S-class Pullman to debut as four-door six-seater limo

Mercedes-Benz could be planning a 2015 release for its most exclusive luxury production car, when it unveils the S-class Pullman.

Rumours are that it could be built as a four-door and six-seat (2+2+2) model. The Pullman will serve as the spiritual successor to the Maybach, which was recently discontinued.

The limousine-like vehicle will feature a middle row of seats that is rear facing to create a rear alcove, and will be fitted with some of the most luxurious interior trimmings imaginable.

Mercedes-Benz has approached tuning company Brabus to help it create a suitable cabin for the Pullman. Brabus has a long history of creating bespoke interiors for the S-class.

The Pullman will be available in two flavours, but unlike a normal car, it does not come down to what engine you want. The Pullman will be available in either ‘normal’ or Guard format, with the Pullman Guard featuring a series of personal protection mechanisms.

The Guard is said to carry a B6/B7 ballistics protection rating, meaning it could stop a NATO 7.62 round, and also offers limited protection from small explosive devices such as grenades and IEDs. The package also comes with run-flat tyres, a separate air supply, underside fire extinguishers and communication systems.

Powering both of the Pullmans will be a version of the 6,0-litre V12 bi-turbo engine from the S65 AMG, but due to the Pullman Guard’s overwhelming four-ton weight, it will be equipped with a different suspension setup.

The pair is expected to be an extra 1,15 metres longer than the standard S-class, giving it a total length of 6,5 metres, or the sole reason to not ever try and drive it yourself.

Don’t expect any of this to come cheap; the normal Pullman is expected to come in around the $500 000 mark, while the Guard will start at a cool $1-million.
