Facelift DS4 leaked

Images of an updated DS4 have been leaked on-line days before its official unveiling at the Frankfurt Motor Show.

The images show a car that retains a strong resemblance to the older DS4, but features a new grille and light cluster. More more importantly, it seems the updated model will be sold in two distinct body styles.

The hatchback DS4 will be retained, as it is probably one of the most popular cars in the DS line-up, and as such will play an important role in expressing the core values of the brand in the wake of its official split from parent company Citroën.

The second body style show a more rugged vehicle to be dubbed the Crossback. It will have an increased ride height than the hatchback and also receive some unique styling cues to make it look more SUV-like.

This will allow the Crossback DS4 to compete in a completely different market to the regular DS4, as DS looks to capitalise on the overcrowded but still growing crossover segment.

That being said there aren’t that many cool crossovers on the market apart from the Nissan, which started the whole compact crossover trend in the first place, but which continues to opinion with its off-beat looks – and is starting to show its age, especially inside.

Cabin design and luxury is of course an area in which the DS brand excels, and it is even rumoured that the new DS4 will come with features such as Apple’s Carplay connectivity. Overall the interior of the DS4 will see a redesign with significant centre console changes and a new infotainment screen.

DS has just upgraded its engines in line with the new THP range from PSA, so it is unlikely that a new engine will also be announced. We therefore expect the excellent 1.2 and 1.6 THP versions to keep those who are fans of petrol engines happy, while a 2,0-litre turbodiesel will satisfy those looking for a more frugal motor.

DS has yet to announce when the car will go on sale, but we are sure that all will be revealed in the coming days leading up to Frankfurt.
