Alfa Romeo finally facelifts Giulietta

Alfa Romeo has finally decided to update the Giulietta after almost six years of service. However, this is not a new Giulietta, but merely a facelift on the current model.

From the teaser images, Alfa Romeo’s Golf challenger hasn’t changed much. The nose and rear are strikingly similar to the current model, and we would be hard pressed to differentiate between them on the road.

Alfa Romeo has also confirmed that there are no revolutions on the engine horizon and that the Giulietta will use the same power plants as before, albeit in slightly more efficient guises. Therefore expect a series of T-Jet petrol and Multijet diesel engines, as well as a Clover Leaf Giulietta at launch.

With the platform, engines and stying remaining much the same we can only assume that the interior has undergone enough of a change to warrant calling this a facelift. No interior photos have been released, so we will have to wait until the official unveiling at the Geneva Motor Show to find out just how significant the changes are.

Alfa’s expansion plans have been plagued setbacks, with both the eagerly awaited Giulietta sedan, and the long-rumoured SUV products picking up delays like a cartoon tornado scoops up cows. A crossover is also said to be on the cards.

While the Italian marque has been trying to modernise and ratify its product offering, it has had to make do with only the Giulietta, the smaller Mito hatch and the spectacular but low-volume 4C in its product range.

Hopefully, 2016 will be Alfa’s year because there are some really exciting models in the pipeline, including a Giulia flagship hot enough to take on BMW’s M3, and powered by a Ferrari-derived 375 kW turbocharged V6.
