BMW celebrate 100 years with concept car

BMW 100 years

BMW today marks 100 years of traditional and vehicle manufacturing, and will be celebrating it as you would expect: by unveiling a concept vehicle.

Not too much is know about the concept car except for a shadowy image that was released with the centenary announcement, but the German manufacturer did also release the following statement:

“Over the course of its history, time and again, the BMW Group has proven its versatility and confirmed its role as a future-orientated, innovative company.  Since the company was formed 100 years ago, the BMW Group has always set its sights on the future and been a consistent, innovative force for progress.

“This is what defines the company and forms its employees’ sense of identity. We live and shape change, acting in a responsible manner towards society and our environment. We overcome challenges and emerge stronger than ever.”

The rhetoric points to something that is very futuristic and laden with technology, so expect something that is more like the i3 than the M3. The real question is whether the car, whatever it is, will be promoted from concept to production model.

The centenary is a major milestone for any company, so BMW could decide that it wanted something on the road for the next decade as a reminder of its achievement. But it is just as likely that it will create something that will only ever see the inside of the BMW museum. We’re hoping or the former scenario.

The festivities start today at 16h00, and we assume that all will be revealed then.
