Tesla announces Model 3 with 3 Series price point
Tesla has finally released some additional details relating to the heavily anticipated Model 3. The “Ordinary man’s” Tesla has been making waves even before anyone knew what it looked like purely because its mandate is to open up the brand to a wider audience.
How wide? Well Elon Musk, space transport mogul and Tesla CEO, has said that the Model 3 will start at $35,000 before any government incentives or tax breaks are applied. This puts it squarely in line with BMW’s car allowance king, the 320i.
You might think that at such a relatively low price point compared to the rest of the Tesla range that the Model 3 would suffer in terms of equipment and technology, but you would be wrong. Tesla claims a range of 345km on the most basic of Model 3’s but is quick to add that it will still be able to execute a standing sprint to 100km/h in under six seconds.
This is all thanks to Tesla’s legendary lithium-ion battery technology that has in the past made the original Tesla a sports car success as well as being used as a wall mounted battery pack for homes.
The Model 3 is also functional enough to seat 5 adults and is still long enough to swallow up a seven foot surfboard although we doubt that will be a very comfortable drive.
There was no word on when the Model 3 will be released but we would guess that it is soon, unless you, like us, are in South Africa in which case it is probably closer to sometime in the future
